Lavetan in Turnhout needed an automation system for their microbiology laboratory which would automate inoculation of samples on 3M Petri Films. My team has developed the control software, as well as the human machine interfaces (HMI).

We mainly worked on:

  • Setting up IT Specifications in collaboration with the end user
  • Working out process flow and software components and interactions together with team
  • Development of server software components in Python for PLC and HMI interaction
  • PLC programming of 2 of the robots
  • Developed a more efficient method for the transportation of Petri films at 2 positions on the outfeed belt, leading to the reduction of 1 sensor per belt in the system.
  • Developed an optimization algorithm for the optimal distribution of testing tubes through the system using a predictor simulation model
  • Prepare and execute FAT and SAT
